My name is Ettienne Ponce De Leon. I am 16 years old. I currently live in Muskego, Wisconsin. One can describe me as a dreamer. I aspire to great things. I take risks, and challenge the accepted. I feel as if the world is my playground. One day I will travel to every single country, creating a colorful and amazing memory. Singing is one of my passions. I sing everywhere, at home, in choir, at school, literally everywhere. One of the main reasons I'm going through the AFS program is to study music in a different country. Another one of my passions is travel and world cultures. I am very tolerant of different cultures. I rarely judge and I am very forgiving. Why live life regretting never giving people a chance? You never know what you are going to miss. My biggest inspiration in life is my mom. We have been through everything together, and no matter how bad things get I know I will always have my mom. Another reason I aspire to do this program is to make her proud. I know she wants me to do great things in life, so I feel this will be the gateway to my opportunity to achieve this.
Through AFS, I hope to gain a better understanding of different cultures. I also want to broaden my musical ability. I hope to meet new people and create life-long relationships. I hope to get rid of any biases or stereotype people in other cultures have about Americans as well as get rid of the biases Americans might have about other cultures. One of my goals is to learn a new language so I can be trilingual. Another goal is to visit places I have only dreamed about visiting, like the Vatican or the Louvre. I need financial aid, because my parents can't really afford to send me and my mom said that if I want to go I need to pay for it myself. I believe she said that, because by showing her that I can raise all of this money she can see my dedication and maturity and will be able to send me easier. I respect that, and I accept the challenge. I am getting a second job for this trip, and even with that I don't think I will be able to get this money alone. With your generous donation, my dreams will come true and I won't let you down. I understand that by investing in me, you will have expectations and I will do everything I can to keep those expectations. So far I have applied for a second job, and I am babysitting for everyone I know. I have also applied for financial aid, and I'm hoping to apply for some scholarships.
